On the occasion of the publication of Agostino Sottili’s Studi Petrarcheschi (Roma/Padova: Editrice Antenore, 2015) the University of Bonn will host on 9 June 2016 in its Festsaal a colloquium in memory of this Italian scholar, who was also for several years a professor at the University of Cologne and secretary of its Petrarca-Institut. A pupil of Giuseppe Billanovich and Agostino Pertusi, Agostino Sottili devoted his whole life to investigating the reception of Francesco Petrarca and Italian humanism beyond the Alps. The most substantial result of this research is the Catalogue of Petrarca’s manuscripts in West Germany, first published in several articles in Italia medioevale e umanistica and then reprinted in two volumes by Editrice Antenore in 1971 and 1978. The speakers at this colloquium will be five expert scholars in the field of Petrarchan studies: Dina De Rentiis (University of Bamberg), Fabio Forner (University of Verona), Jürgen Geiß (Staatsbibliothek Berlin), Carla Maria Monti (Catholic University of Milan) and Jan Papy (Catholic University of Leuven). The colloquium has been organized in collaboration with the Centre for the Classical Tradition and the Italien-Zentrum of the University of Bonn, the Dipartimento di Studi Medievali, Umanistici e Rinascimentali of the Catholic University of Milan and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Cologne. You are all cordially invited to attend!
