In november zal er een bundel verschijnen met artikelen van Jeanine De Landstheer over Lipsius, bijeengebracht en ingeleid door Marijke Crab en Ide François en voorzien van een biografische schets door Marcus de Schepper en Dirk Sacré, tezamen met een volledige lijst van al haar publicaties: In Pursuit of the Muses: A New Biography of Justus Lipsius. ‘Jeanine De Landstheer, who dedicated much of her professional life to the study of the celebrated humanist Justus Lipsius, passed away most unexpectedly and prematurely at the beginning of 2021.
To honour and remember her, Marijke Crab and Ide François collected some of Jeanine’s most important publications on Lipsius into one reference work. They selected eight wide-ranging contributions, written in either English or French, which each discuss key aspects of Lipsius’s multifaceted oeuvre. These articles are preceded by the important biography of Lipsius which Jeanine published in Dutch in 2006 as part of an exhibition catalogue for Leiden University Library. It has been translated into English by Jan Machielsen, thus fulfilling Jeanine’s frequently expressed wish to one day make this biography available to a wider audience.
Further included are an account of Jeanine’s life by Marcus de Schepper and Dirk Sacré, and a complete listing of her publications.
Jeanine De Landtsheer and Justus Lipsius held many things in common. In addition to their shared love of travel, animals, and flowers, they were both at their happiest when they were surrounded by their books. As both lived their life “in pursuit of the Muses”, this volume hopes to stand as a memorial not only to Lipsius’s life and scholarship, but to that of Jeanine as well.

Op vrijdagnamiddag 21 januari 2022 zal de Onderzoeksgroep Latijn daarenboven een herdenkingsnamiddag voor Jeanine organiseren, waarop enkele lezingen over Lipsius gepaard zullen gaan met het ophalen van herinneringen aan Jeanine. Het programma en meer informatie volgen later nog.
